Here's how to plan an elegant affair for All Hallows' Eve.
Happy Halloween! I thought I'd mark my favourite time of the year by inspiring some of you brides who may be starting your planning for next year's spookiest day.
I've done more than one Halloween wedding (including an Edgar Allen Poe themed one) and I have to say they are some of my favourite weddings because they are so very unique. Sometimes, the trap with Halloween weddings is that they can be a little cheesy with the decor. So with that in mind, I've put together an inspiration board for an elegant Halloween wedding.
1) The decor:
Make no mistake, this is the most important part of the Halloween Wedding. The key here: stay away from the traditional bright orange if you want to make it a more elegant affair.
Now's the time to embrace those black candles, dark chargers and rich golds and if ever there was a time for black florals, here's your chance!
Don't be afraid to mix metals in your place settings, silverware is always elegant and goes with everything.
Instead of pumpkins, try apples or pears. Peach or off-white florals make a great alternative to the harsher pumpkin orange typically associated with Halloween.
2) Ceremony decor:
Candles, candles and more candles! You want the soft, mood light to do all the work for you setting the atmosphere.
Pampas grass is also a great compliment to darker florals.
If you are worried about the decor being too dark, pops of lighter florals make a great contrast without taking away from the feel of the design.
You can also have a vendor do simple black velvet draping with pops of your florals for your ceremony, which is a classic design and works with almost any venue.
3) Guest attire:
It's important to be clear on your wedding invitations and wedding website what attire you'd like the guests to wear. I'd steer away from costumes as your guests may have a hard time finding costumes that are appropriate to wear to a wedding. Either stick to traditional dress codes (ie: cocktail, black tie optional or black tie) or pick an elegant theme for your guests (ie: masquerade, all black, all white etc.)
For the absolute worst wedding attire, check out this.
4) The Wedding Dress:
Halloween brides have the option to be bold with their wedding dresses. Time to pick something memorable and unique! Ivory is still my favourite wedding dress color as it's a classic and will hold the test of time in your wedding photos and video, but this is an excellent opportunity to rock a black, gold or sparkly wedding dress.
Just remember, if you are going with a dress with a lot of details or sparkle, a simple veil (or no veil) is best.
If you are going to wear black, make sure it's bold and fabulous and looks like a wedding dress. It's important that you look like a bride and not Morticia Adams (She's fabulous, but still).
Here's some gorgeous unique wedding dresses that are a perfect fit for your Halloween wedding.
I hope this #weddinginspo helps you on your way to planning a perfect Halloween wedding.
That's it for me today. The hubby, pooch and I are getting ready to welcome our little tricker treaters while watching Hocus Pocus, our Halloween tradition.
Happy Halloween........and Happy Planning to all the fabulous future Halloween brides!
